Just an update
I thought I’d give an update here, I get antsy when I haven’t written in a long time, and it’s almost been an entire month since my last post here on substack so no wonder I was feeling so juiced up to write something.
Life is going pretty good. I feel like I’m at that stage in life where I’m very very very close to being who I want to be, and living how I want to live. But yeah, I know things can change at any time, so it’s not like I’m just going to laze around now, I’m still going to keep working on my habits and keep bettering myself.
4 essential daily habits:
To give some details, I have basically stuck with 4 essential daily habits consistently for more than a month now. Not that I’ve only done these for a month, some of them I’ve been doing for several months and more, but this specific set of 4 habits and these specific completion metrics have been going on since August 1st when I came back from home.
The 4 habits are: Yoga, Work, Fear, Diet:
Doing Yoga in the morning at 8 am when possible, otherwise at 6 pm in the evening. Doing asana for 30 minutes, and pranayama for 15 minutes.
Working for at least a certain number of hours I’ve decided as a metric. Work includes mainly stuff for my current job, or any kind of skill or leveling up that would help me in general.
Fear includes doing something that I’m afraid of, in a social context. I log that down into a note in my phone called “Fear Logs”.
Diet metric is basically: eating well. Eating fruit, salad, drinking water, not eating junk food, etc. It’s kind of difficult to measure this habit since it’s a bit subjective, but at this point I think I have a pretty good hang of it.
Through the setbacks I have considered changing some of the habits, but after careful thought they have not changed and I feel that these are going to be quite permanent habits of mine to focus on for a very very long time from now.
Other “habits” that I do here-and-there include playing tennis and learning about fashion/dance in general. And there’s other stuff I do as well, but yeah those 4 are the only ones that I make sure to do daily consistently.
Keep working on your shit. Remember, consistency is far better than rare moments of greatness. Pick a few things you want, through ruthless prioritization, and then chip away at them with small steps consistently drawn out over a long period of time. And you will get there, I guarantee you. You can do anything you put your mind to.
Fear — the most essential daily habit
I have always considered “Fear” to be the most essential daily habit of all, and that has not changed, and probably will never change for quite a while. I have been doing this stuff for a while. And yes, I have to say, I am seeing progress. There are occasional setbacks, but there is definite progress in my confidence and composure.
Out of these four, “Fear” is something that gives me outsized returns on quality of life improvements. So it is what I’m doubling down on. I’m going on a few trips at the end of this month, I don’t know if I will write here before that, but yeah we’ll definitely catch up after that for sure.
I do slack, however, but yeah I know it in my heart that this is what’s best for me so I have actually done pretty well. Last month, I did a “Fear Task” 23 out of 31 days which is huge, and that does not even tell the whole story since there were many days where I did crazy shit and many where I did the bare minimum. But that’s the thing, you’ve got to keep at it.
To keep myself accountable, I will come back with my stats for September next month, and let you know how many days did I actually complete my “Fear” habit. That’s it for now, bye, and see you later.
